Lisa Rafel is an internationally
known presenter, chantress, spiritual teacher and sound and energy
healer. Lisa teaches her transformational programs, Resonate With
the Soul, and The Five Worlds in Florida, New York and California,
and The Netherlands. All of her programs include sacred sound and
opportunities for embodying compassionate awareness. Her work utilizes
sound, Integrative Kabalistic healing, guided meditation, prayer,
body awareness, and Shamanic practices of the Tibetan, Greek, ancient
Egyptian and Native American cultures.
Lisa’s healing chants are rooted in the tradition
of vowels as the sacred language of God. These beautiful harmonic
chants engage the listener at the deepest levels. Described as “music
that comes from before the languages divided” and “healing and sacred,”
they bring powerful, penetrating experiences of joy, prayer, beauty,
connectivity and peace. Lisa will often play an assortment of crystal
and Tibetan bowls, bells or other percussion, weaving a tapestry
of textures and energies to blend with her chanting.
Lisa sings and presents at conferences and in
Seminars about sound, chant, and healing. Recent events include:
Deepak Chopra's Alliance for a New Humanity, Puerto Rico; The Gather
the Women Congress, SF; the Mary Magdalene Conference, Florida.
Other events include The World Festival of Sacred Music, Los Angeles
in honor of HH the Dalai Lama; The State of the World Forum, New
York; The World Wide Labyrinth Project; San Francisco State University; The
Noetic Sciences Institute; and many other conferences and gatherings.
Lisa has sung in sacred sites all over the world
including Chartres Cathedral in France, The Great Pyramid in Egypt,
and the Sakya Monastery in Tibet. Her concerts with her acclaimed
group, Space/Time Phenomena are joyous, transporting events of fusion
world rhythm, songs, poetry, and harmonic and melodic sacred sounds,
chants and prayers.
Lisa works privately with individuals, couples
and groups in selected locations. She occasionally leads spiritual
journeys to Egypt and to other sacred sites.

"It's All Right To Be Naked
is a truly inspired poetic drama, in language at once so precise
and so richly imagistic that it is like Shakespeare writing as
a modern American woman. Rafel's words cut to the heart of the
profound dilemma between men and women in our time -- the pain
and joy that seem hopelessly intertwined, the riddles that open
only to reveal more questions. This is not a play with any easy
answers, but a work to make you think, to make you cry for the
losses, but also to make you delight in the wonder of being human,
being here on this earth to feel so many different things."

author of Memory Babe, a Biography of Jack Kerouac
Lisa's book, It Began In Kathmandu tells the story
of her life-changing journey in Nepal in words and photographs.

".... The beauty of the poetry
does not in any way hide or diminish the assault on the senses,
but rather shares the experience with conciseness and directness.
Lisa Rafel is a poet who has found a way to share her journey
with us and this book should be read by all of us, even those
who totally dismiss "spiritual" matters, because
of the beauty and power of the poems."

author of Last Exit To Brooklyn |
The text of It Began In Kathmandu
has been developed into theatrical multi-media events of story,
music, and photographic projections for the Los Angeles Arts Festival,
schools, galleries, museums, and spiritual institutions.
Lisa has recorded and performed her spoken words
to the accompaniment of many musicians including Ray Manzerak (formerly
of The Doors.) She has performed her poetry in prisons, homeless

My story
Namaste.
My
spirit greets the spirit in you.
There are three ways someone becomes
a Shaman. A teacher will find you, you can find a teacher,
and sometimes you become one spontaneously, which is what
happened to me. It is impossible to reveal all the details,
but here are a few key highlights recounting some of the
events of my story.
The preparation for becoming a healer
was my life. I believe that all of the suffering, the history,
my passions, the drama, the intricate weavings of difficult
moments, and each revelation prepared me. As I look back,
I realize my life has had three major Chapters, or openings
and closings. The first part, up until Nepal, I will call
the learning. The second part, which began in
Nepal I will call, the beginning. The
third part, which followed my journey to Egypt, has no name.
It is still happening, changing, becoming and revealing
itself.
My book, It Began in Kathmandu, tells
the story of what happened to me there. In Nepal, I entered
a spiritual crossroads. I had to accept fear, truth and
beauty at deeper and deeper levels. I spontaneously began
doing healing work on others. I learned to pray and to listen
when God spoke. I experienced the music in the trees, and
I received the directive that I had to give up my previous
life. I had to learn how to live in truth and to speak from
my heart. When I returned to the States, I knew that something
extraordinary had happened to me. So, though I was still
filled with doubts, I gave up my previous life, and I became
a poet.
Two years later, in 1990, I found myself
in a foreign country again. I felt I had to join a group
that was traveling to Greece to recreate the Eleusinian
Mysteries. Deena Metzger was our leader. Master healer,
storyteller, historian, author, and magical being, her commitment
to the integrity of what we were setting out to do made
it possible for our group to enter the imaginal and transformational
realms of self awareness. With each day, I grew more in
awe with the extraordinary guidance and beauty of God. I
learned to have the courage to follow my instincts and create
experiences for myself, including a personal ceremony at
the Temple of Athena in Delphi. Sounian, the home of Poseidon,
was the last site we visited. It hadn't rained there in
years and a few members of our group decided to do a rain
dance. Very quickly, clouds came and it started to rain.
I felt drawn to go to a bookcase in the guest shop. It was
very dark in the corner. On the bottom shelf there were
some stones that I needed to buy, and take home.

We
are all related.
My energy changed after Greece. I started
helping people using stones and hands on energy healing.
I had to learn about fear and trust all over again. I became
more intuitive and awake to dimensional realities, struggling
with doubt and wrestling with other peoples opinion,
and with my own personal darkness that demanded to be recognized.
I prayed, listened for guidance and was lead to study other
traditions - Native American, and Celtic, as well as the
Kabballah. One day, while doing psychic work for a scientist
in Europe, I had an out of body experience that took me
to Egypt. It was time to learn about sound, and when I came
home I started new preparations. I needed to go to Egypt
and make certain sounds in the temples and in the Great
Pyramid. My initiation in Egypt was extensive.
I

I
am here in relationship with God through all realms and
living beings
For now, I am busy doing my work. I work
with sound, and sing in ancient and sacred sites all over
the world. I sing in concert and I initiate others with
sound. I teach about courage, compassion and joy, helping
people to leave their habits and to open to the miracle
of themselves. Occasionally, I lead trips to Egypt so that
others may experience what I experienced while I was there.
This chapter of my life is filled with
sounds, love, teaching, receiving, singing, learning, invoking
the sacred, and working for peace. I look forward to meeting
you one day and learning from you. We are each blessed with
unique gifts. You are a gift. I salute you.

Daily Reflections
#1
Be still. Breathe this moment. All moments begin this way.
Born — out of nothing.
#2
Time wants to be your friend.
Breathe quickly. Notice the speed around you.
Now, breathe slowly. Feel the shift. If you let it, the world will follow.
#3
Sing today in the shower. Let the water bathe you with a soft hand.
You, are to be cherished. It is true.
#4
When power becomes large and deafening it drowns out the voice in your heart.
#5
Tension grows in the passageways of doubt. With belief, doubt disappears.
#6
You are more than your thoughts, your actions, your desires, and your fears.
Those are the reflections that shine through the small windows and doors of you.
#7
When something dies, something new is born. It is the law.
No one journeys alone. Wherever you go, you take us with you.
#8
Wait. All will come to you in time. Be still. Look at the stars.
Let your heart sing. We will hear your song and find you.
#9
Like the small dust that floats in the air all around you,
Miracles are seen in the light.

Past Meditations
Allow freedom in your heart. Invite your heart’s warmth to reach out past what you know, past what you can hear… touch the vast unknown... Then, let your heart’s warmth enter the tender places in your body. Feel the soothing warmth, so alive with love.
